November 29, 2020 The Dutch House (Jocelyn’s Pick)
Discussion:
Jocelyn- This story was just eh. Did not like that in the middle of the book the author started jumping time periods. Made it very confusing. The whole book was about the past controlling the present. Would not recommend. 2.5/5
Caitlin- Did not enjoy the read. Drawled on and on. Kept waiting for something to happen. Would recommend to certain people. 3.5/5
Julie- Felt like the author was male. Ugh! BORING. Kept waiting for something to happen. Mad at this book, nothing connected. Would not recommend. 2/5
Ali- I was disappointed with their obsession with the portraits. No personalization of their own lives. Like reading the Royal Tannenbaum’s with no humor. Would not recommend. 2.5/5
Maren- Did not read
Favorite Characters:
Jocelyn- Jocelyn
Caitlin- Mauve and May
Julie- Sandy and Jocelyn
Ali- May and Jocelyn
“Do you think it’s possible to ever see the past as it actually was?”
“But we overlay the present onto the past. We look back through the lens of what we know now, so were not seeing it as the people we were, we’re seeing it as the people we are, and that means the past has been radically altered.”

June 28, 2020 Summer Sisters (Maren’s Pick)
Discussion:
Maren- Really liked it. Took me back to high school. Easy read. Would recommend as a poolside read. 3/5
Ali- Didn’t enjoy it. Tame version of My Brilliant Friend. We’ve read this same book a million times. Too much familiarities. A very young adult book. Would not recommend. 3/5
Julie- Judy Blume should not write adult novels. Finished just so I could get through it. Kept waiting for something to happen, but nothing ever did. Just a bunch of weirdness all along. Would not recommend. 2/5
Jocelyn- This book was terrible. The worst airport kiosk book choice. I have serous doubts about the label New York Bestseller now. It was very young adult. So predictable it made it boring and it’s the same tale we have read in so many other books. Would not recommend. 1.5/5
Meriah- Did not read or comment.
Favorite Characters:
Maren- Trisha
Ali- Sharkey
Julie- Lamb
Jocelyn- Jocelyn and Nathen
“Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought her back again.”
Balance $$$- $380. Ali, Jocelyn, Julie and Maren are paid up. Meriah owes $40- Maybe discuss Meriah not paying for now since she isn't coming to club or reading. However this will effect the Anniversary in which she may not be able to attend if not paying into it....
Next club is July 19th outside Julie’s (Or maybe Maren’s pool again…?)
Book pick is The Lost Girls by Heather Young 357pgs.
Duties: Hostess makes a creative cocktail. All bring your own dinner, drinks and a chair.
