OMG I gotta an idea for bookclub?????
Ok ladies I thought of a cool way/sytem for us when we don't know what book to pick; tell me if you like this idea or not:
So I was thinking of taking all the books we have on our "suggestion" list and cutting them up and putting them in a hat (a container really). The concept would be that we have tons of suggestions in the hat and when anyone simply can't think of a book we utilize our current suggestion base by randomly sticking our hand in the hat and picking a book. So it's a book picked at random but from our suggestion list. Does that make sense?
You guys wanna do this? You think we will utilize the system?
Also I thought that if and when someone had new book suggestions; you just bring a tiny slip of paper folded and throw in in the hat, further accumilating book suggestions to utilize.
Also if someone wants to read a book on their own and can't think of one you could pick at random adding a little mystery to your read.
Let me know if this sounds good or not. I wont commence cutting until I hear back from the troops.

Maybe dipped into harsh drugs and can't come back.
I thought it was someone who stopped caring, whether it be about life, themselves or the people around them.
So I ask again what a fuck-up is? I know I'm not, for I keep going each and every day.
I live life to the fullest and fulfill the goals I give myself.
I heard this term thrown about in argument before ad it hurts.
It hurts to be referred to or have people close to me referred to as fuck-ups when the mouth stating the term is the biggest fuck up of them all!!!!

Well ladies we made it yet another year; defying all odds, rude comments, jealousy and worst of all that elusive schedule. So much has happened in the last year.
-Maren just added a new member to the club: Baby Lana
-Little does Alyssa and Lana and Mason know that they were born into membership lol.
-Alyssa and Mason are another year older.
-Ali went through a divorce and subsequent new relationship.
-We lost a Matriarch to our "coven"; Kathrine.
Through all life's changes we prevail as bond stronger than glue. We love, support, fight, fix and grow together. This club is more than something that keeps us reading and in the know and in the literary world; it is a combined soul of our growth through this life.
When all seems devastating, and believe me sometimes it is, we have each other to lean on. Even if its just book talk cuz we dont want to talk about whats going on inside its still you girls there listening and loving. I love all of you with all my heart and am sooooooo fricking glad that four years ago on Meriah's couch in Bonny Doon we spawned this magical, invincable club!!!!

AUGUST MEETING AGENDA: Meriah's Birthday Bookclub
Okay ladies,
First I'd like to apologize for my lack of attention these days. I guess you gals have babies and I get divorced (that's my excuse). So I will be more on it now that the storm is clearing and I am back on my game (or trying).
I cannot recall if any of us shelled out dues last time ( I kinda think we did but can someone remind me??) If you paid last time you all (except Meriah) would have paid $10. So we can start fresh this meeting with a $10 dues each if we didnt pay last time or just do $5 and go from there.
I propose that before the meeting starts while the cooking and finalizing is happening that we get the money stuff out of the way before sitting down and getting distracted. What do you think??

Assignment for May 22nd Meeting
Ok ladies,
Since we will never catch up in meetings we will be doing a Two for One on May 22nd. The meeting is at Tristana's house on Sunday May 22nd at 4pm.
Your new assignment (you can put down a Simple Plan if you like since it's not due until may 22nd) is:
Pick a Poem that you will read to the group, have your analysis of the poem ready, then each person will give their take. You may also pick a short story or prose; it must be short enough to read out loud to the group.
This assignment will be our April Meeting make up.
Then we will commence A Simple Plan discussion.

I just finished One For The Money and it was great! I'm so excited to start the next. Maren- Did you know there are a total of 8 books? Wow! I'm hooked! I love this character and the story line is great. Any one want the first book?

What to Read?
Okay so I'm the next person to choose a book and I'm torn between Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith by Jon Krakauer, and Blink by Malcolm Gladwell. Both stories are non-fiction. Under the Banner of Heaven is about a double murder two fundamentalist Mormon brothers committed in the name of God. Blink is about how within the first 2 seconds of meeting someone or walking into a strange house our mind has already made a decision, and it's this decision that protects us from danger. I downloaded the first chapter from both books and both sounded really good, what do you guys think?

KITCHEN CONFIDENTIAL by Anthony Bordain
Book was not widely liked. Ali & Maren were the only ones who read the whole thing. It was good in content but droned on and on. Decriptions taking up multiple pages to basically say a one sentence thing. Sad that it is too wordy. The first three-four chapters are good but then once in New York the stories are more description then story. Almost as if he is trying to glam up some things. SCMBOOK Club Rating: D-

City of Embers (Book #1) Awesome!!!
Good morning my lovelies!! I just wanted to share a book that was suggested to me and which has grabbed my attention and now I am stuck thinking all day about.
I downloaded the sample to see how I'd like it in between Kitchen Confidential. Holy Crap! I got to the page 13 where they cut you off and just as they must have planned it I was cut off right where I wanted more. Damn it!!!!
So I highly suggest City of Embers girls. (there are 4 books in the series).

So this one was a bit hard for me, but as Adam (Julie's Husband) said "you need to detatch yourself. I am glad I read it and I'm glad that in the face of such horrible events someone grew so strong.
Can you believe what a monster that man was????? What a monster that family was??? The thing I am confused about that maybe you ladies can enlighten me on; is When Ramona said (right before her incident with Tess) "you don't understand, you don't know what you are doing." Now they never embelished on that. They showed that there were roles in the conspiracy but never why they were going to such lengths to cover the murders and rapes. It was like they were going to tell us about a mental disorder the Little Driver had or something. What do you think?

Whoa!!! This one was crazy..... The events that happen to Tom Goodhugh are so unfortunate. It was crazy how fast life changed for him. How it all can just go away. It's like a life lesson really. We can have everything one day and it can all be taken away like a flip of the switch. It makes us need to remember that no matter what and event can occur that will forever change everything you once knew. Any thoughts??

Yay I'm able to post :)
Just finished 1922 and it got me really thinking. Once you get past the horror of the murder and the negative repercussions that follow, the story has a strong underlining theme of corporate oppression. When you think about it Wilf's whole motivation for killing his wife was to stop the money-hungry hog farm coorporation in taking over the land and ultimately ruining their quiet farm-life. In the 1920's many companies started growing and gaining power and stiffling the ordinary man. Look at the way things are today. I'm currently fighting big name banks over my mortgage, along with the thousand of other home owners. I couldn't help but feel for Wilf and understand his fight.
