Ali- The book kept being bad! Hated it so much I felt like I would never care to read again. Author was jumpy. Lots of typos. 0/5 Jocelyn- SO boring! And confusing. Author kept jumping between 1st and 3rd person, so annoying. The writing style was horrible. 1/5 Julie – Felt let down. Wanted to learn more about Irish history. Elementary grammer. Just couldn’t finish. 1/5 Meriah- Couldn’t keep my eyes open. No character development. Could have been great, but no action. 1/5

Announcements: Jocelyn- No news. Julie- Mason starts readathon. Book club sponsors? $10 a piece was donated. Meriah- Got Comicon tickets…yay! Ali- No news to share, hating life. Sad Ali Tristana- Hanging with the beautiful Barbara. Maren- Gave birth to Flynn (spelling?)
Other Items: We reviewed the 92 books the club has read throughout the years. Laughed about the fact that everyone has picked at least one crappy book.
Jocelyn won the baby pool…Yay! She received a candle with patchouli…haha.
It was decided we all pick are own books without input from the club!!
Year of the Hat? We decided no. Tristana is still going to weed thru through. Ali needs to bring to the next club.
Books from the hat will be used if someone shows with no book.
We all want new gear!!! Ali and Meriah are going to price sweatshirts, v necks and stickers. We will be paying from pocket instead of from dues. Ali is going to send a mid month reminder.

Julie- Wanted to give up the whole time. BORING!!! 0/5 Tristana- It felt like a junior high reading assignment. Just had to trudge thru. 0/5 Maren- My favorite part was when I chucked it at Maro during labor. Disappointing overall 1/5 Jocelyn- Hated. Had to assign 20 pgs a day to finish. There was a message of flying from under our parents influences and finding our own views….blah blah 1.5/5 Ali- This was a manuscript that should have stayed hidden!! That’s why she never published it. HATED!! 0/5

Bookclub Anniversary Meeting Spot
Hello Ladies,
As our anniversary approaches we should start brainstorming how we want to spend it. We will meet at Bocci cellar at 3;30pm for cocktails and appetizers. we can discuss the book and logistics and where we will go for dinner and fun.
Once all the business is out of the way we can move on to different venues of our liking.
Anyone down for mini-golf? Bowling?
Any other ideas??
Does someone want to look into cHarddonnay sailing times and prices??

Maren didn’t read.
Meriah – Liked the book. No run on descriptions, wham bam thank you mam. Hard not to think of the movie. 3.5/5 Jocelyn – Hated the book. Very hard to connect with. Movie affected the read for me. Authors afterward was favorite part. 2/5 Ali – Enjoyed book. Forgot a lot of the movie and the book cleared up some of the confusing parts. 3/5 Tristana – Liked book. Only saw the movie once, so was not affected by that. Easy read. 3.5/5 Julie – Hated the book. Disappointed. Boring and awful. To cut and dry. 1.5/5

Ali – Really liked. A page turner. Very intense, raw craziness. Feel very educated. Cried a few times. 4/5 Meriah – Liked overall. Really depressing, almost didn’t want to finish, but proud I did. 3.5/5 Julie – Liked, but thought Kite Runner was better. A page turner. 3/5 Jocelyn – Liked. Very depressing! Enjoyed learning the political aspects of the time. 3/5 Maren- Liked better then Kite Runner. Very depressing, but enjoyed the timeline. 3/5 Tristana – Liked. Hated the names and politics. Felt that some scenes were ended abruptly. 4/5

Discussion: Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel (Joe’s pick) Tristana and Maren didn’t finish ……No Recap Ali: Enjoyed book. Liked the spider web life of the actor. 4/5 Jocelyn: Really liked for a post apocalyptic book. Liked the jumping from past to present. Loved that there was a tattoo artist even after all that befell mankind!! 3.5/5 Julie: Thought the author had beautiful details and loved the way it was written. Loved that Clark started the museum. 4/5 Meriah: Enjoyed book. Really liked the Symphony. Could have used some more prophet action. 3.5/5

Liked the spider web life of the actor. 4/5 Jocelyn: Really liked for a post apocalyptic book. Liked the jumping from past to present. Loved that there was a tattoo artist even after all that befell mankind!! 3.5/5 Julie: Thought the author had beautiful details and loved the way it was written. Hello ladies,
In the last Meeting Minutes a couple questions were to be clarified.
1) Maren's Babyshower at Highlands..... First of all Maren we love you and you can have as many kids as you want and we will still want to celebrate with a babyshower. So get that whole I already had a boy babyshower business out of your head. Secondly, if you dont want the formal babyshower as you had originally planned then maybe we can do a special SCMbookclub only babyshower. Maybe we can do it at your house and do a pool theme, have BBQ and food and stuff maybe play a cheesy game or pool game or something. So I have the 22nd blocked off- I say let's celebrate!!!!! Let us know how and where my lovely!!!

Discussion: Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty (Julie’s pick) Maren didn’t finish Ali: Enjoyed book overall. Loved the gossipy interactions and inspector interviews mixed in throughout the book 4/5 Julie: Loved it! Related to the crazy parent school scene. Also related to the Jane/Ziggy dynamic. Was nervous we wouldn’t like it. 4.5/5 Jocelyn :Pleasantly surprised. Found many moments of laughs. Truly related to the Madeline/Ed marriage…that’s Mike and Joe. 3.5/5 Meriah: Enjoyed! Had to stay up to find out what happened. 4/5 Tristana: Liked book 4/5 Maren: Liked what she did read….4.5/5

Next book club is March 29th at Tristana’s house Book is Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins 360 pgs
Next book pick is Maren’s. Possibly The Stolen Child (It’s a movie)
Duties: Ali-glasses (Julie still has them), Tristana- main, Meriah- side, Julie- salad, Maren- drinks,Joe dessert
The person hosting needs to notify the club of their main by Wed., so we can make our items based on this.
Recap on jobs: Joe-notes, Meriah- $$$, Tristana- timekeeper, Maren- Menu, Julie- marketing, and PR, Ali- blog and enforcement of policies

The lovely dinner we enjoyed this month – Swedish meatballs, Kale and Potatoes, Salad, Beer and Moscow Mules, and Hungarian shortbread cookies. YUM!! YUM!!
Discussion: String Diaries by Stephen Lloyd Jones (Ali’s pick)
Everyone read it!!
Opinions:
Maren- Liked the book overall. Enjoyed the ending although found it unrealistic. 4/5
Julie- Liked the happy ending because Leah needed a mom. There were a few cheesy parts throughout the book though. 4/5
Ali- Liked the book a lot, felt like the ending was rushed a bit. 5/5
Tristana- Loved the book and likes the possibility of a sequel. 4.5/ 5
Joe- Liked the book overall, but felt torn about the ending. Do they all have to happy endings? 4/5
Meriah- Liked the book and could go either way with the ending, good or bad. 4/5

Got glasses back to Julie, so broken ones can be replaced. Discussed breakers responsibility to pay Julie back no matter the cost. **Julie getting a quote for beer steins.

Discussion: Burning Room by Michael Connelly (Jocelyn’s pick)
**Had to do a limited recap for- Tristana, Julie, Maren.
Opinions: Ali- Ok book overall. Long winded at times. Didn’t like the ending. 3/5
Meriah- Hard to stick with at times. Loved the relationship between Bosh and his daughter. Got bored, okay overall though. 3/5 Jocelyn- Very disappointed on my wasted book pick. Junk food that was boring. Not very challenging. 2/5

Book is Burning Room by Michael Connelly. Next book club is Feb. 1, 2015. Ali’s pick.

Discussed Ali’s email about reeling it in. Decided we need to review laws next meeting.
Made 2015 Resolutions for the Club: - Get back on track
-Everyone finishes 6 of the 12 books, whether they like it or not
-Julie gets to host 2 book clubs at her house this calendar year -
-Take a picture every book club meeting. At the beginning of the meeting - Ali is in charge of this.
Announcements: Ali’s birthday event is Jan 17, 2015 – Woodstock pizza and bowling. Save the date
Discussion: What She Left Behind by Ellen Wiseman

Had to do a recap for those who did not finish (Maren & Meriah, Tristana?)
Opinions:
Maren- Didn’t really like over all. Not a believable story. 3/5
Ali- Liked the book a lot. Loved the two stories told at the same time. Found Clara’s story more intriguing. Cried three times. 4/5
Julie- Didn’t like authors writing. Seemed like a young author. To wordy. Lots of potential though.
3/5 Jocelyn- Enjoyed overall. Definitely found Clara’s story more interesting. Loved the historical parts.
4/5 Meriah- Read quickly. Found Clara’s story fascinating. 4/5
