November 29, 2020 The Dutch House (Jocelyn’s Pick)

Discussion: Jocelyn- This story was just eh. Did not like that in the middle of the book the author started jumping time periods. Made it very confusing. The whole book was about the past controlling the present. Would not recommend. 2.5/5 Caitlin- Did not enjoy the read. Drawled on and on. Kept waiting for something to happen. Would recommend to certain people. 3.5/5 Julie- Felt like the author was male. Ugh! BORING. Kept waiting for something to happen. Mad at this book, nothing connected. Would not recommend. 2/5 Ali- I was disappointed with their obsession with the portraits. No personalization of their own lives. Like reading the Royal Tannenbaum’s with no humor. Would not recommend. 2.5/5 Maren- Did not read Favorite Characters: Jocelyn- Jocelyn Caitlin- Mauve and May Julie- Sandy and Jocelyn Ali- May and Jocelyn “Do you think it’s possible to ever see the past as it actually was?” “But we overlay the present onto the past. We look back through the lens of what we know now, so were not seeing it as the people we were, we’re seeing it as the people we are, and that means the past has been radically altered.” Balance $$$ - We have $80.00. Jocelyn, Julie, Ali and Caitlin are paid even. Maren will owe $30 at next club. Next Club is 12/27/20 at Julie’s NEW House Book Pick is The Henna Artist by Alka Joshi 342pgs Next pick will be Maren’s, next club date possibly January 30th or 31st.
