Meeting Minutes: July 19, 2020 The Lost Girls (Julie’s Pick)

Discussion: Julie- Too similar to our last book. Did not like or hate the book. It was disturbing. Didn’t like the end. Would not recommend. 3/5 Jocelyn- This was a “no satisfaction” book. It was well written, but just sad and disturbing. I would have loved traveling to a lake every summer in my childhood. Would not recommend. 2.5/5 Maren- Well written. Easy fast paced read. Wish the ending had tied more together. Would not recommend. 3/5 Ali- So very disturbing although well written. Just did not enjoy. Would not recommend. 3/5 Meriah- Did not read or comment. Favorite Characters: Julie- Mathew Jocelyn- The kittens Maren- Mathew and Ray Ali- Melanie and Emily “There is no harm in the writing. It is only in the reading that the damage would be done.” Balance $$$- $410. Julie, Jocelyn and Ali paid even. Maren will owe $20 next club. Meriah? Next club is 8/16/20. Possibly at Maren’s pool……? June 28, 2020 Summer Sisters (Maren’s Pick)

Discussion:
Maren- Really liked it. Took me back to high school. Easy read. Would recommend as a poolside read. 3/5
Ali- Didn’t enjoy it. Tame version of My Brilliant Friend. We’ve read this same book a million times. Too much familiarities. A very young adult book. Would not recommend. 3/5
Julie- Judy Blume should not write adult novels. Finished just so I could get through it. Kept waiting for something to happen, but nothing ever did. Just a bunch of weirdness all along. Would not recommend. 2/5
Jocelyn- This book was terrible. The worst airport kiosk book choice. I have serous doubts about the label New York Bestseller now. It was very young adult. So predictable it made it boring and it’s the same tale we have read in so many other books. Would not recommend. 1.5/5

May 24, 2020: Acid for Children (Ali’s Pick)

Discussion:
Ali- It tripped me out. My brother is this era, thinking this is how my bro grew up. He was not really a crazy guy to begin with. I had thought he was more druggy crazy before reading this. I related with my childhood friends. Already have recommended. 4/5
Maren- Liked the growing up part, but High School dragged for me. I liked all the different places he talked about. Unbelievable they never got caught. Would recommend to certain people. 3/5
Julie- Always thought Flea was off and a wierdo. This book educated me that he was just insecure. It was an easy read. I liked the way he wrote although it started to drag with the all the lists of people and bands. Would not recommend. 2.5/5
Jocelyn- Overall the book was eh. His ever so enlightening drug trips got old. Liked the first quarter of the book when he was little and then it got old. He does have an incredible memory and liked that he was an avid reader and grew up in the world of jazz. Would never recommend 2/5
